SIGNIFICANT TREES REGISTER
Welcome to the Significant Trees Register! Created by community group Significant Trees in Byron Shire to identify and preserve our natural assets for future generations.
Community members can nominate significant trees based on these categories:
  •  Historic – planted to commemorate an event
  • Scientific – rare, very large for its species, etc
  • Social – food producing or meeting place
  • Aesthetic – awe inspiring and just beautiful
  • Wildlife – provides an important food source, or nesting habitat for nearby wildlife
About the project
All nominations will be peer reviewed to ensure accuracy, but please feel free to nominate any and all trees you feel an attraction to.
We want to collect and share the stories about these trees such as why were they planted and by who, for what purpose, did something happen here by this tree. The stories are invaluable in building a sense of belonging in our community.
  • The project will map the trees and create a Significant Tree Trail.
  • Ultimately, we aim to strengthen our culture to one that values trees, the environment and history. With your help, we will create a real example of a living, whole shire, arboretum.
